During olden days, only the elite class used to gift their beloved with solitaires rings. Later with the discovery of gold mines in South Africa, diamonds became more accessible to the public and soon became the favorite of all classes.
Being a special ornament, the diamond is generally purchased with great care and concern. Generally the four ‘Cs’ namely Color, cut, clarity and carat weight are considered before diamond purchase. Color is the overall color of the diamond and basically it would range from colorless to yellow. Diamonds look more desirable when it is less in color. Cut determines the shining of the diamond and there are various kinds of cuts available. A perfectly cut diamond would capture all the light and reflect it back to the height of the potential.
Clarity refers to the quality of the diamond. Flawless diamonds are very rare and very expensive. A nearly flawless diamond would be devoid of visible blemishes or ‘scars’. The last concern is the Carat which defines the size of the diamond. Larger stones are usually exceptional and costly. Half carat stones would be less expensive than single full carat ones.
The ring metal type is also an important concern while buying a diamond engagement ring. Traditionally gold rings were used but silver, platinum and white gold has started to become the couples’ favorite lately.
