Diamond RingAn delighted Albuquerque woman claimed a lavish 30-thousand dollar engagement ring from the Santa Fe Police Department .

The 45-year-old woman, whose name was not released, lost the 3-carat diamond while cooking dinner in 1997. She said it was like being reunited with a long lost love.

After receiving more than 25 people false claims since her diamond ring went missing, it was slated to be auctioned off by police in a matter of weeks.

Last week the ring’s owner was approached by a pal in Albuquerque who asked if she had read the story about the unclaimed diamond band.

‘She didn’t know anything about it, so her friend pulled up an article on her phone and showed it to (the ring’s owner),” Mr. Carlos said. “She said, ‘That’s my ring! That’s my ring!”

According to police, a family photo with the diamond engagement ring on the woman’s hand confirmed the claim. ‘We had no distrust whatsoever the ring was hers,’ Mr Carlos said.
